One of the first investments I made was perhaps the most typical of my investment style.  I initially met the team from ‘Alive and Giving’ when I was judging a competition at UCL.  The potential of both the team and the idea impressed me, and I agreed to come on board.  During my time with the firm, I helped them win additional financial support, in the form of soft-loans, etc.  I also found the firm a development partner, who worked on a cash/equity split.  At the same time, we worked hard to refine and improve the business model.  After a period of rapid transformation, I received a respectable offer from the management to buy me out, and I accepted it without negotiation. The firm is still going strong, rebranded as CharityCheckout. I’m extremely pleased for them, as more than anything I’m motivated by helping to build great web brands.
